2. Peri-urban condition

2.3. Site Analysis

2.3.1.General
[Img. 01]

Speceficity of these peri-urban areas is heavy fragmentation of fabric with lack of hierarchy and variety.

The prevailing usages are industry, low-end housing and agriculture; there is no obvious tertiary sector.

There is no apparent logic in the ways different parts of the fabric are put together.

There are no apparent centres of differentiated activity.

2.3.2.Fabric Grain [Img. 02]

From the aggregation of different sizes of the fabric it is also evident that the area is highly fragmented.

There is no apparent logic of the aggregation of different fabric grains although more careful analysis (see page 24) will show certain material intelligence in the formation of this kind of aggregations.

2.3.3. Road Hierarchy [Img. 03]

Fragmentation can be observed also on the level of road infrastructure.

Road hierarchy is not always apparent and consistent. Highways tend to end in local villages with nowhere to go.
